  1. Take onion and cabbage in 1:2 ratio..
  2. Heat a pan with 1 tsp oil and roast Urad dal, curry leaves and red chilly. Keep aside..
  3. In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add onion and Sauté onion until it becomes soft..
  4. Add cabbage and sauté until it gets cooked. It takes 5 to 10 mins in medium to high flame..
  5. Add tomato and sauté until it becomes soft..
  6. Add salt, tamarind and coconut. Stir it once and switch off the flame..
  7. Cool it and grind everything into coarse paste..
  8. Serve with idli, dosa or rice..

I made these with red cabbage/purple. fry cabbage in a kadai. add all the other ingredients grind in a mixy coarsely. pour the seasoning over chutney. Cabbage chutney is a healthy and low-calorie veggie based chutney. It is also very delicious and goes very well with rice too. I always make this chutney for dinner and use it for the next day lunch too.
